sounds like the 'open file' issue. If you had a log file 'open' (say, with syslog-ng) and it's deleted without closing the file first, the file will still remain as an entity on the disk with no filename, until the program is killed (which it is when the system is rebooted.)
Things like logrotate will restart syslog-ng in order to make sure that the pruned files are really pruned. _________________ Core2Quad 9550S/4GB/4x500G RAID5/RadeonHD 5770

| i didn't do anything deliberate since my initial issue, and do have logrotate. will have to keep that all in mind. |
