Hi, I'm looking for a console based piece of software that is like a CRM system, but less complex than a CRM. I basically need something that can hold customer contact data, work order and related process documentation, system build orders, HR/personnel, and warranty records. I run a computer shop and we have been using a haphazard system of asynchronous spreadsheets for TOO long. Being my business is on a tighter budget through this downturn, and we put a lot of money into the current system, we need to stay on our existing hardware; a slightly archaic Gentoo system with about 12 VT220 serial terminals connected to it. Does anyone know of any software that can serve these functions and run fine on such an environment?
Note: These terminals can display applications written with the ncurses library just fine, as the spreadsheet app we use is a curses app, so there is slight potential for graphics. _________________ "Intelligence is the ability to avoid doing work, yet getting the work done."

Did you consider hiring a programmer to write the application that you want.
I know that you want to cut down the costs, but chances to find console crm that is not terribly out of date are very very small i think _________________ "Dear Enemy: may the Lord hate you and all your kind, may you be turned orange in hue, and may your head fall off at an awkward moment."

*sigh* That's more or less what I was hoping to avoid. It just seems like such a waste to throw out our current system though y'know? It's incredibly stable (382 days uptime today). My employees like the terminals, as they possess an ironically archaic quality in our shop. I have members on my team who are very well versed in C and Java, and (begrudgingly) being a former Java developer myself, we could do it. It's just the whole process is incredibly arduous, and there's nothing that I hate dealing with more than wayward software that segfaults every other time you write to memory.
Anyone else seen anything else around? _________________ "Intelligence is the ability to avoid doing work, yet getting the work done."

Moved from Gentoo Chat to Other Things Gentoo, better off here. _________________ Plants are pithy, brooks tend to babble--I'm content to lie between them.
