|
|
I went back to a 10/27/2007 iso I had laying around and it boots fine, recognizes
the cdrom: /dev/hda, and the sata hard disk: /dev/sda.
Using this iso back in 2007, I installed gentoo on this asus p5pe-vm motherboard
using an ide hard disk (not a sata).
Questions:
1> Is this a known problem in the 20100126 iso?
2> Is there a more current iso than 10/27/2007 that will not have this problem?
2> Is my plan to boot the 2007 iso, get the current 20100126 stage3 and continue
with the install a really bad idea?
Thanks for any help and feedback,
Bill |

gentux,
Thanks for the reply.; however, I CAN do the download with my 2007 iso.
So the real HEART OF THE MATTER and question is:
Why is the 2010 minimal iso broken on my asus hardware described in the original post?
I apologize for being confusing in my original post.
Thanks again,

I do that all the time with an old Gentoo minimalCD for x86 - amd64 may differ, not sure.
No reason that I can think of not to use it, if it starts your hardware in the way that you need, gets you a boot prompt, and networking.
As soon as you're in the chroot, the CD becomes pretty much irrelevant anyway.
The only issue that I am aware of is that you can't chroot a 64 bit stage3 from a 32 bit installCD. |

On my box, I always install Gentoo with the latest SystemRescueCD, because I want to cut and paste all my commands with Firefox on my chrooted console |

Yup, using a livecd with a desktop environment and a web browser is by far the easiest way to install gentoo. I always use ubuntu livecd for my installs so i can watch videos on youtube and stuff while compiling :p
I also always boot the livecd iso's from a usb stick so its way faster and no silly waiting for the drive to read the cd. _________________ Would you mind telling me why there is ricearoni in my coffee!? |

SystemRescueCD is by far the best installation medium for Gentoo. Its developers anticipate their software running a very wide variety of hardware, _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once. |
