I'm trying to get EU3 working in wine and I've almost succeded now, the games runs, but the launcher doesn't which is a problem since vanilla EU3 is horrible, also there are no buttons and no popups in game and alot of text is missing wich makes the game a tad bit hard to play. I've got mono 2.0.1 for win32 installed and I've updated ~/.wine/user.reg to use SLGL. Version of EU3 3.1.

Edit: this is only a part of the file.

When I try to run eu3.exe (the launcher) from the folder in which EU3 is installed it says: "Application has generated an exeption that could not be handled. Process ID=0x23 (35), Thread ID=0x24 (36). Click OK to terminate the application. Click CANCEL to debug the application." then wine informs me that the program died. this is what goes on in the console:

First off, it would be a good idea to make an empty prefix for this.
For me, EU 3 (any version) works with the following options in the registry:

At \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D:
DirectDrawRenderer = "opengl"
OffscreenRenderingMode = "fbo"
PixelShaderMode = "enabled"

And at \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\DirectSound (this is required as EU3 is known to have sound problems on Linux if this is not set):
MaxShadowSize = "0"

Also, make sure you have corefonts and dotnet20 installed via winetricks:
sh winetricks corefonts dotnet20

If you don't have winetricks do:
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks && chmod +x ./winetricks

Then set d3dxof.dll and msvcp60.dll to native, not builtin in winecfg.

I've made some progress now, as the launcher runs now aswell, but the game is still very much not playable. :(

I uninstalled mono and used winetricks to install corefonts and dotnet20, vcrun2005 was need too to get the launcher working.

No buttons in the menu though and no text as before.

I did not include any of the changes to '.wine/user.reg' as it seems I'm not allowed to edit that any more. It edits and saves fine, but any change I made to it is reverted as soon as I try to run eu3.

As I don't know how to work wineprefixes I have not tested that. For now this is the output when I run eu3.exe:

I did something wrong earlier, installing to a new prefix worked, and most things seem to be working. However, when I start a mod in In Nomine 3.1 the text appers in wrong places. Could this have anythng to do with windows and linux handling text files in different ways and are there a way to fix it?

I have made a couple of unsuccessful attempts at running mods in EU3.
It may just be the mod I don't know.

Can you run the game now ?

In nomine works, Heir to the throne doesn't. Civlization Universalis runs, but texts appear in the wrong places, making it hard to play.
