k6-2 500 Nursing Student What programs?

Setting up a computer for a friend its a k6-2 500.

She needs something to type papers, photo editing, Web browser, and the big one a desktop

I have Xfree86 emerging as we speak.

So What do you think?

Kde vs gnome vs others

gimp vs ?

openoffice vs abiword vs koffice vs others

mozilla vs konqueror and or vs others

Looking for ease of use and stable really only need Icons, and a file manager to get to her files, on the desktop or a menu? oh yeah and a good cd player choice
