thanks for the help but after following all your advice I still
had a bunch of blocks.

had to add all my texlive related packages to package.keyword
but it seems to be straightened out now (at least it is trying
to build)

thanks once again

Ah that's right. My apologies. If you are on amd64, then you also need to keyword ~dev-tex/luatex-0.50.0 as that has not yet been marked stable on that arch.

Hi Guys:

great advice....
I got rid of all the dev-libs/poppler* packages as suggested here and all my problems went away.
Thanx for the back ground on that issue and the solution.

Cheers,
john

I am using the kde-sunset overlay (as KDE4 is missing vital functionality that KDE3 has), and it seems that kpdf is pulling in poppler-qt3 which is causing my block issues:

Code:
[blocks B     ] dev-libs/poppler-qt3 ("dev-libs/poppler-qt3" is blocking app-text/poppler-0.12.3-r3)
[blocks B     ] dev-libs/poppler ("dev-libs/poppler" is blocking app-text/poppler-0.12.3-r3)
[blocks B     ] app-text/poppler ("app-text/poppler" is blocking dev-libs/poppler-0.10.7, dev-libs/poppler-qt3-0.10.7)

How do I keep kpdf:3.5 but solve this poppler block issue?

Code:
equery depends poppler-qt3
[ Searching for packages depending on poppler-qt3... ]
kde-base/kpdf-3.5.10-r2 (>=virtual/poppler-qt3-0.6.1)

You need to update to virtual/poppler-qt3-0.12.3-r1 from kde-sunset overlay.

No luck I'm afraid, after doing a:

Code:
emerge -uDNpvt world

I get this:

Actually, we have removed the virtuals from portage, but it looks like this one is still used in kde-sunset. If you have any issues with it, you should address the overlay maintainers. See https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-814554.html.

I'm having the same problem with emerge -1av dev-libs/poppler

I went to emerge world and I had to remove
emerge -C poppler boost device-mapper
since they were blocking things

Now I need to know how to get poppler back.

sync and emerge poppler, as there is only one poppler package in the portage tree anymore: app-text/poppler-0.12.3-r3

got a strange issue here, not sure if it is related, app-text/poppler-0.12.4 is out, but it seems to conflict with virtual/poppler-0.12.3-r1
this is the output:
Code:
!!! One or more updates have been skipped due to a dependency conflict:

app-text/poppler:0

('ebuild', '/', 'app-text/poppler-0.12.4', 'merge') conflicts with
    ~app-text/poppler-0.12.3[xpdf-headers,lcms] required by ('installed', '/', 'virtual/poppler-0.12.3-r1', 'nomerge')

any ideas?

The virtuals are removed from Portage, so you shouldn't have them either... here's a quick one, at your own risk:

# emerge portage-utils
# emerge -avC `qlist -CI poppler`
# emerge -1 app-text/poppler

I finally tracked down the issue. My layman make.conf directory in my /etc/make.conf was wrong. It was pointing to /usr/local/portage/layman/make.conf instead of /var/lib/layman/make.conf. I'm not sure when or why it changed, but after changing it emerge no longer complains about poppler.

Code:
# eselect news read all
    2010-02-28-layman-storage-path-change
Title                     Layman storage path changed from version 1.3.0 on
      Author                    Sebastian Pipping <sping@gentoo.org>
      Posted                    2010-02-28
      Revision                  1

Layman has been using /usr/local/portage/layman to store
overlay checkouts from version 1.2.3 on.  As that path
was violating the concept of keeping portage away from
/usr/local the default of this storage location moves to

      /var/lib/layman

from version 1.3.0 on.  If you have never touched the file
/etc/layman/layman.cfg manually before, you may be tempted to let
tools like etc-update or dispatch-conf blindly accept this new version
    of layman.cfg.

As that would hide all your currently installed overlays from layman
it's probably not what you want.  Your options are:

    A) Moving
       1. Move your current content to /var/lib/layman before upgrading.
       3. Update PORTDIR_OVERLAY in /var/lib/layman/make.conf accordingly.
       2. Make /etc/make.conf source /var/lib/layman/make.conf.

    B) A symlink
Put a symlink to your current storage location at /var/lib/layman
       before upgrading layman.

    C) Configuration
Reject the path change for layman.cfg when running tools like
etc-update or dispatch-conf blindly.  Be aware with this way you'll
have to do it for each layman update again.

PS: This news item is a reaction to users having run into this problem
(see bug #306233).  Thanks to Volker Hemmann for reporting.
