Try http://quake.tek.pl/qw/gfx.wad. Not many people pay much attention to making wad files anymore since everyone prefers using 24-bit textures instead. |

prboom v2.4.1 (http://prboom.sourceforge.net/)
found /usr/games/bin/gfx.wad
IWAD found: /usr/games/bin/gfx.wad
CheckIWAD: IWAD tag /usr/games/bin/gfx.wad not present |

Doom 1 wads belong in /usr/share/games/doom-data/. No wads belong in a bin directory - that's for binaries/executables only |

I'm a little confused by your post, but I think I know what you mean.
In the FPS there are a couple of interesting projects
Remake of game content
================
doom - freedoom - http://freedoom.sourceforge.net/
quake - Open Quartz - http://openquartz.sourceforge.net/
Although as a interesting commercial TC
you may want to check out X-MEN: THE RAVAGES OF APOCALYPSE http://www.zerogravity.com.au/xmen/
Although I do hope your checking out "Twin Dragon" and "Wanton Destuction" add-ons for Shadow Warrior both free. and look great in jonof new build engine There is a couple of ebuilds around for this. I like the style of the the jfduke in the forum better than the one in bugzilla so I just ammended that. |

Well, for free games, there's Quake: emerge darkplaces with its "demo" USE flag (also check out its other USE flags for additional eye-candy).
For Quake 2: Grab the fresh QuDos ebuilds and enable its "demo" USE flag.
Voila, 2 classic games with free high-quality maps. |
