hello,
i need to reinstall. i accidently formatted / partition.
home is on its own partition. how do i go about the reinstall using my old home?
i have made a backup of /home with fsarchiver, not sure if i need it. leave /home as is, or reformat and restore /home after install?
do i need to add myself as user again?

Hi, when you will reinstall your box, just make sure that you mount your /home directory when you chroot your box the first time and then later edit your /etc/fstab to automatically mount your /home partition.
That's it |

Hi, when you reinstall, just skip the step where you format the home partition. You'll tell Gentoo where it is in /etc/fstab and you won't miss a thing when you get the system up and running again - a huge benefit of having /home on its own partition!
Happy installing! |

i had /boot, /, /home, and /usr. only / is gone.
having /boot i still need to recompile a kernel right? modules gone?
could skip grub configure and install.
having /usr doesn't do me much good does it? are packages i emerged on /? |

Yes you need to recompile your kernel, because the /lib are gone.
Yes you can skip the grub configure, but you will need to reemerge grub at least. |
