I am having a problem getting the sound to work with xawtv. Sound works with every other application that requires it.. Mplayer, xmms and xfce desktop burps. The video and tuner work fine. When I sepcify a mixer in the configuration file it appears to respond to the keypad. Nothing I try even makes the speakers crackle. Help........ :?

Is the TV card sound output port connected with the Line-In port of your soundcard?

If the tv card needs to be plugged into your line in on your sound card then make sure that your line in works correctly under linux. I have found that the problem mostly has to do with the line in volume.

I too have the problem that I have no sound with xawtv / motv. I thought that it was caused by the driver for my SAA7134 based TV card, which chipset seems to be supported yust recently.
But I discovered that when I run xawtv / motv and then start the radio application I got the TV sound. However once I got the TV sound I can't switch from channel anymore.

I haven't tried it yet but perhaps an update from xawtv to the latest version (3.75 at the time of writing [see: http://bytesex.org/xawtv]) would help.

Install some sort of audio controller software. I have Aumix. Then pump up the volume on the "Line in" channel. I think by default, it is set to something very low.

I had the same thing.

On my system, the sound does not stop! Even when I shutdown xawtv, it continues. When I log out, it still continues. Infact, it does not stop until I power down the system. LOL

Finally figured it out. Nothing wrong with the tv card. Just plugged in some amplified speakers into the audio out of the tv card and it works fine. Line-in on sound card must no quite be right. Now I can watch Tech TV on my computer.

Plugged the tv card back into the sound card and emerged mix2000. It allowed me to crank up the volume on the line-in. Now everything works as it should.
