|
|
Hi everyone,
I am in the process of setting up a Gentoo ftp server. The server will be utilized by clients outside of my network (remote clients).
I have installed Gentoo in a virtual machine (vmware server 2) and have installed vsftpd as my ftp daemon inside the Gentoo virtual machine.
My first question is, should I (given my scenario) set up my Gentoo ftp server in an active ftp fashion or a passive one?
Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

Hi everyone,
Ive decided to set my ftp server to accept passive connections only. I believe I need to forward port 21, and the dynamic data port (>1023).
However whenever attempting to connect to my ftp server I get the following problem:
| Quote: | | Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead. |
It appear my ftp server is responding to the the client PASV request with unroutable address. Of course my
ftp server (gentoo) is behind a NAT.
Any ideas what I can do to resolve this?
