What you do is use the local zoning board.
First, you create exclusive requirements for membership in the zoning board, like the person must be nominated by petition of 3,000 persons who have lived in the area for at least 25 years, must have graduated from a Swiss university, must be a taxpaying land-owner, etc. That way there are no immigrants on your zoning board.
Then, you pass zoning ordinances that require all architecture in the district to be consistent with the local styles of architecture, with the requirement that all architectural documents and building diagrams must be reviewed and approved by the zoning board prior to a building permit being issued.
Problem solved, and the discrimination is so subtle and spread out on a case-by-case basis that its impossible to complain about.
Of course, this shotgun-style approach sends a much clearer message of, "Guess what? We don't want you here." |
Thats exactly what they have been doing. There are currently only 4 minarets in Switzerland as a result of this, but the fascists think even that is too many. Moreover, at least from the pics in the BBC article, the ones that do exist follow local architectural styles. _________________ Stand With Mittens |

A Swiss-style minaret? Instead of some guy up there wailing to Allah, do they have the Ricola guy?
I'm not well-informed on Swiss politics. I know they have a right-wing party that was a major proponent of this legislation. Is that party actually fascist? Do they really have a substantial number of bonefide "fascists" in Switzerland? |

Contradicting yourself I see. From the Hitchens/Fry thread :

Also, this was a democratic vote where the majority of the citizens voted in favour of the resolution to change their constitution. _________________

fuck europeans and their double standards... |
Good job, I'm not European then. Nothing wrong with using an existing building for your worship needs - it's about blending in. _________________ When you break rules, break 'em good and hard |
