I've been rebuilding my 64-bit installation since last time I tried to upgrade it, I did things wrong and ended up unable to emerge anything. The installation has actually gone quite well as I can boot the system right now without a kernel panic. However, I can't get syslog-ng to emerge, since glib won't emerge either. BTW, I used the SystemRescueCd for the installation, not the LiveDVD.

SOLVED: Turns out that booting my gentoo solved the problem. Odd that chroot would mess things up that much.
