I'm trying to get my KDE GUI displayed on my windows XP eee PC. I've come as far as to have putty connecting, and have acces via terminal. But the TightVNC setup won't work......

I've got x11VNC running as a service, on my Gentoo. Also the TightVNC is installed on XP. But no matter what I try, I get;

TightVNC info; Failed to connect to server

The Google results are rough explanations of setups, and not really helpful :cry:

I use putty to do this quite well. Connect to the KDE box via ssh with putty then click on the title bar of putty and select change settings from the menu.

select tunnels from the connection->SSH subcategory and put 5900 in source port and localhost:5900 in the destination and click add then apply (Don't forget to click add, I regularly do).

after that you should be able to use the VNC client on the XP box to connect to 127.0.0.1:5900 or just 127.0.0.1 in most cases.

Thanks........that did help. It seems I need to run

Code:
x11vnc -usepw

in putty's console, and then start the TightVNC Viewer for it to work.
