Alsa, KMix and non-linear volume

I did search a bit about the problem, but perhaps someone on
gentoo forums can provide a little bit more insight into this problem.
My Intel HDA Azalia (HP 6715b) is working quite well except for the
linear audio volume scale that results in an uneven perception scale
(lower part of the audio volume virtually can't be heard, the show
begins at approx. 50-60% and gets distorted at 95-100%).

Is this problem solved somewhere via a patch or something else?
