Hello. I have gdm installed. It will start up, but when I go to choose which session to log in with there are no selections available in that dialog.

I tried the obvious thing and emerged gdm again. This problem has persisted since I installed gentoo on this laptop, about 6-8 weeks ago. Any suggestions please? Thanks. Skippy

Code:

 root # emerge -pv gdm

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Possibly a stupid question on my part, but have you emerged a DE?

No question is too stupid in the pursuit of a solution.

What's a DE?

Oh, do you mean desktop environment?

If so, yes. Gnome, KDE and enlightenment. I can use kdm to log into enlightenment just fine. That's all working.

What happens if you just log in via gdm anyway?

Hmmm.... I got enlightenment, my default DE as user. Log in went fine.

last time I tried that I did not get e, I got the default ... whatever that is.

Soooo, seems to work in that regard.

Ah! Hold it - I logged out, to see what would happen. Then I was messing around in the configuration for gdm, I changed the theme from Circles (the defaut) to Gentoo Emergence and the list of DEs *does* appear in this theme.

Thus, I theorize it's a theme related problem.

Well well well...
