Ok, let's assume I want a user to be able to execute something that's in /sbin, without having to enter the full path to the executable. That could be easily accomplished by adding /sbin to his PATH variable. What if I want this done, only for this executable, not adding the whole /sbin directory to his PATH? Is there any other way besides creating a symlink to the executable in some of the directories, included in the default path?

I'm pretty sure creating a symlink within /usr/local/bin is the "proper" solution, the only alternative I can see is a shell alias.

You could always hack the ebuild to have the executable instaled in /bin rather than /sbin, but seriously I doubt that'd be worth the hassle.
