Hi
When i start X with Gnome as my desktop environment, i got the following error message:
Quote: | There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.
The Settings Daemon restarted too many times.
GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in. |
It only occures when starting it with my user..with root it doesn't occure.
Quote: | cat ~/.xinitrc
exec gnome-session |
Quote: | cat /etc/conf.d/xdm
CHECKVT=7
DISPLAYMANAGER="slim" |
Quote: | in rc.conf:
XSESSION="Gnome" |
What should i do? |

If you create a test user account and login Gnome
do you get the same result? |

Try adding
Code: | eval `dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session` |
to your .xinitrc file _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel
gcc 13, profile 17.0 (custom bare multilib), openrc, wayland |

Thank you. But this doesn't seem to work
He exports dbus and shows some text in the console but the error still occures. |

Hmm when it does work with a new testuser...then it seems to be my user that is corrupted.
But the only difference i see is the ~/.xinitrc file.
When i delete this file, it works!
Maybe this is because of slim that is executed first and is calling the Gnome-session itself?
However thank you for the advice with the testuser! |

How are you starting X? xdm or startx
never mind, i relooked at the original post
Edit to add: your .xinitrc file should be fine, according to slim documentation _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel
