using this very nice script for routine updates...

Could you please do two things:

* put the ETA=1 option with also the text "DONE!" before ... something like "DONE! in xx.xx minutes"

* create an ebuild for it and put it on the gentoo tree. Really, this should be there.

Thanks !

Is there a reason why you suggest this? Is it difficult to figure out which packages have finished and which are still ongoing?

Thanks for trying it out :)
About the ebuild.. no one has asked for it before! It is simply a single file with no packaging requirements. I can try to submit an ebuild to b.g.o. Then it is up to some dev to put it into the tree.

first point: yes and no ... its not hard really , but at quick glance , yes its a little hard. ( if its easy to do, please do it .. it would look much better ).

second point: I dont really understand why nobody ever asked. I guess is one of those things : not in tree, its not "public", not many people know of it and nobody asks.

Unless portage gets the feature of showing the ETA and TOTAL ETA/TIME of an emerge ... this script is a must :)

Would it help if I change the color to normal?

The problem with putting another "Done!" is that it eats up horizontal space. And so there might be cases where I can not make the whole sentence fit in the same line. It is not difficult to put it in. It is just that I tried to make sure that almost all packages can be written in one line (within 80 characters).

Thanks. The new version is up.

Changelog:

* Change the color of time taken to normal.

Now, the problem is google code does not allow files to be released from there any more. So, I have to resort to github releases.

Please download the latest tarball from here: https://github.com/ppurka/quietemerge/releases/download/20140205/quietemerge-20140205.tar.gz

I opened a bug report regarding the ebuild: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500392 . Let's see if there is any interest in getting it into portage.

Note (15 Mar 2015): Google Code is dead. But this script has been on GitHub for quite a few years already. So, no worries. :-)
