|
|
Hi everyone. I'm new to Gentoo..I'm doing my best to learn!
3 days ago I installed Gentoo and then set up Gnome, and I was so happy!!!
But I noticed that the audio doesn't work and I cannot open jpeg files. Then I discover that there exists some USE like jpeg, gstreamer, ecc...
Well, I can use portage to rebuild everything after choosing some useful USE flgags!
So I investigate and I set:
USE="consolekit mmx sse sse2 X dbus gtk gnome avahi mikmod vorbis jpeg jpeg2k png aac mp3 mpa4 mpeg mplayer msn dvd cdda cdr djvu encode ffmpeg openmp opengl pdf posix quicktime vnc vorbis wifi svg doc"
Then I execute:
Code: | emerge --ask -e -n poppler-utils gnome" |
hoping that this way it will rebuild gnome without poppler-utils that blocks the process (if I remember correctly).
But now
Gnome seems to work, I can listen video to youtube (but I can't open jpeg files D'OH), BUT I can't navigate with nautilus in filesystem (it even doesn't display the files in the desktop) and there is always one core (I have a two cores AMD cpu) working, and I don't know what is it! (System Monitor doesn't tell me, even if I ask to show me all processes)
Please, can somebody help me? |

Yes, and in particulare I find this:
Quote: | The solution is to remove 'filemanager' from
/desktop/gnome/session/required_components_list, or, as in my case, replace
'nautilus' with 'netbook-launcher' in
/desktop/gnome/session/required-components/filemanager. |
I have just one question...
I can't find /desktop/gnome/session
where is it? |

I mean... If I write:
it tells me that this directory doesn't exist! |

The paths are gconf paths (gconf is kind of like the windows registry, a database of configuration settings for your gnome desktop). emerge gnome-extra/gconf-editor and use it to change those keys. |

Note that, when you use gconf-editor, you're actually just editing text files that live in your home directory, under ~/.gconf/. I'm just pointing this out to be thorough, so that you'll understand what's happening. Many of the changes you make to these files will be picked up immediately, but you may need to log out and log back in to be sure that ALL of your changes will happen. _________________ Acts 17:28, "For in Him we live, and move, and have our being." |

ahhhh!!!!!!!!!
Ok, now I understand! Thank you! I removed nautilus as I found... and in fact now when I login there are not problem, I don't have a core running.
But now...without nautilus...which filemanager can I use??? Should I live without filemanager? I can't even open my home... |
