Boot CD unable to mount media

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I was updating my system the other day when some part of the install process poo'd itself and as a result it managed to trash my init scripts as well as the compiler. Having tried Kubuntu and coming very close to throwing my laptop out of the window as a result, I have decided to re-install gentoo again.

The problem I'm running into is with the amd64 boot CD - it boots, but then just after I select my keymap it looks for a media to mount and says "No bootable media found". Can anyone suggest why this could be? Surely the media it's looking for is the CD itself - I have tried burning 6 copies now, each time downloading it afresh, checking the MD5, burning the CD and varifying it has been written properly. If someone could help me figure this out then I'd really appreciate it - Kubuntu is doing my head in.

You can try using the Gentoo based SysRescueCD. It sould work.

That's great - I'll give it a go - many thanks. Out of interest, is this a known fault with the boot image? Not sure if I need to let anyone know about it (other than on here, of course). Anyway, thanks again.

There can be various reasons for that error.

I you type No bootable media found in the Quick Search: for This Forum (top right) you will see.
