I recently updated my system (after about 3 months). Now, after executing any command that has a gui, I get several of these messages:
Code: | jekyll@batman ~ $ emacs
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

I believe they are harmless, but they are nonetheless annoying. How can I fix it?

I had the same problem.
Web searching shows that Fedora fixed this by upgrading libXext to 1.0.99. Gentoo ~x86 is currently on libXext 1.0.5. 1.0.99 isn't in portage, but 1.1 is. But it's masked.
I put x11-libs/libXext and its dependency x11-proto/xextproto in /etc/portage/package.unmask, then did emerge libXext. That fixed it. |
