I wanted to put a larger(and much more silent) hard drive in my Ultra 5. I have read around the net of people having success doing so.
I have a 180GB drive laying around so I attempted to use that.
The problem is that when installing Gentoo, fdisk detects the first cylinder starting at 1 and not 0(unable to choose 0 either, even though it's not listed).
As such, I am unable to choose the proper partition types to continue(no whole disk option).
I read about the 137 Gb limitation but it seems that fdisk does recognize the whole drive.
So any help in installing sparc64 gentoo on this drive would be appreciated. |

Hiya jeffro,
Have you tried creating the sun disklabel in fdisk? Normally once you've done this it will auto-create the whole disk partition (as well as some others which you can do with as you please). |
