hi.
i got a simple and maybe ignorant question.
im currently using Blackbox and the Qt engine, for running sylpheed, pan and some other programs. im not using gnome nor KDE.
Yesterday i downloaded a light text editor and after compiled, i noticed i didnt like the fonts used, so went straight into the code, modified and recompiled.
How can i accomplish this with Qt/gtk dependant apps?
how can i change the font of Pan Menu? or Sylpheed's?
how can i change their colors?
maybe i can change a sort of "Default Font"?
thank you. _________________ ---

AFAIK neither sylpheed, nor pan, nor blackbox use the Qt library.

What do you want to accomplish? Going straight into the code,
modify and recompile it? Well, you can do this with every Qt/gtk
app for which you have to code. Of course you have to understand the source for that ... I think I can't help you there.
Why don't you use a gui to change the fonts? If the app itself has no font config dialog it should use the default font from the underlying widget set, i.e. Qt or GTK+. To change the default font from Qt, use the 'qtconfig' application which is part of Qt. For KDE applications you can use the font settings dialog in KDE's control center. For GTK+ apps there is a font settings capplet which is part of Gnome's control center (I think in Gnome2 it's called 'gnome-font-properties'). Otherwise the GTK+ default font is defined in the GTK+ theme you use. I think the font can also be overwritten in ~/.gtkrc. GTK+ itself comes with no GUI to change fonts or colours, so you if you don't use the Gnome font settings dialog (there is no such thing for colours with GTK/Gnome) you have to edit the theme or the ~/.gtkrc file by hand. I can't help you here, but this should be described in GTK's documentation.

Both apps should respect GTK+'s default font (from the respective GTK+ theme you are using). So changing that one should change the font in those apps.

If those apps come without some colour settings dialog, they should at least use the colour settings of the GTK+ theme you are using. AFAIK colors in GTK themes are hardcoded, and there is no GUI to change the colours of them. So you have to use another GTK+ theme with colours you like or hack ~/.gtkrc

hi.
yes, i knew those programs dont use the Qt lib.
i meant Gtk.
and, still, i have no experience in changing gtk themes.
is there any tool to modify them?
thank you. _________________ ---

No there is no tool for that yet AFAIK. You'll have to change the gtkrc file which comes with the theme. I think you can also overwrite things in ~/.gtkrc. But you have to edit them by hand with some editor. In those gtkrc files you'll find things like
bg_text[state] = color
or
font = font
I am sorry, but I have no knowledge to tell you the details. Maybe this is some help for you:

ok.
qtconfig was the tool i was looking (:)) for and ive set my preferences all right.
regarding gtk, i emerged gtk-theme-switch or something and let it filter out the default font...
for gtk colours, it's been simple to edit the gtkrc file by hand, using the GIMP as a renderer for the code colors.
thank you and good work. _________________ ---
