|
|
Code: | Unable to load X Server Display Configuration page:
Failed to query NoScanout for screen 0. |
It seems that the driver isn't working .. Is there a way to check it besides playing a HD quality video or anything of that kind ?
Installed NVidia by following the Gentoo Wiki guide and everything went through pretty well ( module installed, modprobe works, X doesn't reject it, etc. ) but still .. it looks like it's not initialized - even screensavers hang
Code: | dainis@gentoo ~ $ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes
dainis@gentoo ~ $ su -c 'lspci | grep VGA'
Password:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1) |
Any ideas on how to resolve this ? |

Not sure I understand completely the issue here.
However I you emerge nvidia-settings you should be able to run this from your X environment to prove that you are using the nvidia-drivers and not the open source NV drivers.
Note you should su - to allow nvidia-settings update your xorg.conf |

The text ( error code ) at the beginning of my post was copied directly from nvidia-settings GUI, section X Server Display Configuration.

Not at a terminal at the moment but. . .
I'm not sure have you tried this but there is a command that you should run from outside your X environment.
Its something like nvidia-Xconfig. This will give you a solid xorg.conf for your X environ.
Also not to over look the obvious have you checked that when you emerged the nvidia-drivers that they were built against the same kernel version that you are running.
IE.
Check your /usr/src/Linux symlink against your current running kernel
"uname -a" |

One of the first things I did after emerging nvidia-drivers and X.org doesn't reject it - everything seems to be loading just fine ( I'm on XFCE right now ).

Yea, I guess one could really miss that but no, nvidia-drivers have been built against the current kernel ( haven't rebuilt it ). |

Have been messing around this for a while now and still no sign of my video card driver being in a working state .. everything loads up just fine but everything in the system is still hanging ( screensavers, videos, etc. ) so I assume something isn't right.
Any ideas ?
** UPDATE **
Driver seems to be working now but still can't access the corresponding nvidia-settings section. |
