Hi,

I realized a strange Problem. Whenever I try to launch a Java GUI from the konsole (as a normal user) under KDE nothing happens. I don't get the command prompt back, ps x shows the program running but no window appears at my desktop. When I try to do it as root, I get the GUI... I tried sun-jdk-1.6_13 and sun-jdk-1.6_15 without any success.

Any help appreciated

Code:

emerge --info

Usually when something like that happens as a user, but works as root. It is a permissions problem. Sorry but I don't know where you need to check for java permissions, especially on a kde system.

thx for the answer. But I'm not sure whether a permission problem is causing this behavior. I noticed that a double click in dolphin starts up the application and the gui comes up correctly. For testing purposes this might work but I need to start the application from a specific directory as external applications won't be recognized otherwise.

I think I know what's happening. Try reemerging java-config-2.

If that solves the problem, you have to run python-updater. You updated your python version and all related packaged must be reemerged.

A year or two ago I had added "export AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit" to my .bash_rc which should fixed some compiz related problems. Removing it solved the issue. Thanks for your posts!
