Hi All,
I am getting this when I follow a link in a file I'm browsing.
It doen't happen all the time, but once it starts it fills up ~/.xsession-errors.
Here's my .xsession-errors
Code:

startkde: Starting up...
kbuildsycoca running...
No running windows found
X Error: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) 10
  Major opcode:  2
  Minor opcode:  0
  Resource id:  0x200000c

(firefox:9421): Gtk-WARNING **: Unknown paper size A4

(firefox:9421): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_x11_atom_to_xatom_for_display: assertion `atom != GDK_NONE' failed

(firefox:9421): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

The last line is repeated endlessly.
Did revdep-rebuild and all kinds of checks, searched the forums, nada.
Could someone plse explain what's going on?
Here's my emerge --info
Code:

$ emerge --info

I've tried many things in ~/.mozilla files.
I backed them up and then started firefox w/o any ~/.mozilla directory
to force firefox to make a new file.
Same problem.
Gerard.

SOLVED.
The problem was caused by x11-libs/gtk+-2.16.5
Downgrading to gtk+-2.16.1 cured it.
Both are ~amd64 but had to unmask because of dependencies.
Gerard.

This message reappeared.
I did an update and gtk+-2.16.6 was installed.
2.16.1 ebuild is gone.
Downgrading gives me gtk+-2.14.7-r2 which will give dependency problems.
Anyone else having this problem,or better yet:anyone know a solution?
Gerard.

A poke in the wild, try:

env LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=1 firefox

And give it a shot :)

Thanks Rexilion.
That seems to work.
I typed it into an xterm and it started firefox.
Where could I put this?
Gerard.

Well it doesn't work after all.
The error message stopped being printed in .xsession-errors.
Instead it was printed in the xterm.
Gerard.

Searching with google gave the answer that despite the word 'critical' it has no effect on the app. Let's assume this is correct. Try to disable any firefox *system* plugins (that are not in your home dir but are provided through gentoo).

I unzipped the gtk+ source files for both 2.16.1 and 2.16.6.
I then grepped them both for "collision".
2.16.1 doesn't have gdkxid.c,2.16.6 does and that generates this message.
I get the error immediately after opening some sites.
It doesn't happen opening Gentoo.org.
I wonder what plugin could cause this.
Thanks for your help.
I'll experiment some more.
Gerard.

Well it's javascript.
Apparently not used by Gentoo and sourceforge.net and Gimp sites.
I know this is not going to cause any problems except that my .xsession-errors file becomes enormous.
I think I'll try and find a gtk bugzilla to file a bug.
At least I found the cause, the solution is above my knowledge.
Thanks again.
Gerard.

After some googling and visiting launchpad:Apparently everybody and his grandmother are having this.
The gtk people and mozilla know about.
So I am not going to file a bug.
I think the gdkxid file should better check what's going on rather than giving false alarms.
How to do that is beyond me though.
Gerard.

What amazes me is that I'm the only Gentoo user that has posted about this.
Can't find anything in Gentoo Bugzilla either.
Gerard.

I used to have those junking up my .xsession-errors file.

It's gone since xorg-server-1.6.3

So, your choices are to upgrade to unstable xorg - or wait until 1.6.3 goes stable. :)

Well Mike that didn't make any difference.
I'll leave the masked xorg-server installed since it seems to run alright.

Ignoring them is alright as long as you have no other problems.
When your .xsessio-error file becomes 100KB and you want to search for
a particular error it becomes a pita.
Gerard.

Strange, they disappeared on my box, did you restart the X server - /etc/init.d/xdm or however you start X?

I have x11-libs/gtk+-2.16.6

I restarted the whole box.
Some of what I found with Google had 1.6.x and not 1.5.3.
All mozilla based browser exhibit this error.
I haven't tried konqueror yet and I don't have Opera.
Tomorrow I'll try konqueror,it's past midnight here.
Gerard.

You can try to throw this in crontab....

#!/bin/bash
sed -i '/firefox/d' /home/xxxx/.xsession-errors

I will not try konqueror,it uses Qt.
I guess I'll sit this one out until there's a solution.

You might want to rebuild gtk+ with this patch.

No, it's still there (depending on the site evidently - weather underground triggers them off for me)

x11-base/xorg-server-1.6.3.901-r2
x11-libs/gtk+-2.16.6
www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.0.14
net-libs/xulrunner-1.9.0.14
gnome 2.26 - all packages

they weren't there with gnome 2.24 and firefox 2 series
