|
|
I just upgraded to kde 4.3 and every time I try to log in the login splash screen takes much longer than usual, and then I get an error message saying plasma workspace crashed. This is followed by an error message saying the kde daemon crashed, and then nothing in kde will start up. I tried re-emerging kde-base/plasma-workspace with all of the use flags disabled, and I also tried moving my .kde4 directory- neither helped. Is this a bug or am I being stupid? Here is the output of emerge --info:

Well not exactly on start, but my plasma-workspace crashes about 2-3 times / session. I'd guess it's something the devs are probably aware of and as It works afterwards I'm just gonna wait patiently for 4.3.1 ;) |

I got the same problem, see bug #281988.
Hope we quickly find a fix for this one since i dont want to remerge all this stuff again...
EDIT: Solved it by re-merging jpeg-7.
hamburgler6, could you try remerging jpeg and see if it helps you, too? |

I re-emerged jpeg-7, but it didn't fix the bug for me.
btw thanks for linking to the bug, I forgot to do it before. |

It turned out that the permissions in my /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/ directory were wrong- only root had write access but it needs have user write access as well. If anyone else runs into this something along the lines of:
Code: |
#chmod -R 661 /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/
$kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
|
should do the trick. See the above bug posted by Hoek for more info. |

That's weird, mine is 0700 and it works perfectly Code: | drwx------ 13 mike users 4096 Sep 4 16:45 kdecache-mike |

So my post and solution are a little bit sloppy- I think what is important is that $USER owns the directory, and has write access to the files inside the directory. |
