I've been trying to use -msoft-float and regardless what gcc version or what linking I try to perform, I get a message similar to this.
Quote: | /tmp/cc21ZEhg.o.text+0x208): undefined reference to `__floatsidf'
/tmp/cc21ZEhg.o.text+0x218): undefined reference to `__floatsidf'
/tmp/cc21ZEhg.o.text+0x22c): undefined reference to `__divdf3'
/tmp/cc21ZEhg.o.text+0x2dc): undefined reference to `__muldf3' |
Naturally, Google has been no help. It seems like, when most people get this error it's because they are trying to cross-compile for an embedded system and are trying to use uclibc instead of glibc. From what I've read on the web, the Power3 processer runs floating point divide faster when using software float. I'm trying to squeeze out as much power as I can for Boinc apps.
I've tried this with and without distcc.
Another problem I've had is that -mswdiv has disappeared from gcc-4.3.4 since gcc-4.2.4. It's still in the info page though my man page is mysteriously empty.
It seems there are some features of the Power3 processor I'm just not going to be able to use in Linux. I'm stuck at roughly 350 floating point opps per second when I should be able to get double that.

Never mind. The power3 should be hardware float, not software float. That's the whole point of the power3. It has two floating-point fused multiply-add units on the processor. I needed to quit messing around with cflags that are automatic with the march=power3 flag. _________________ Greg |
