HI Gentoo Forums .
Right now i have got all my computers working with gentoo i would like to start doing a bit of gaming.
Im trying to play Transport tycoon delux.
I have found a thread on another website which to cut it down short bascially say the following.

Code:
 Re: RollerCoaster Tycoon or Theme Park game for Ubuntu?
Ah ha! I cant resist pointing you in the direction of Transport Tycoon (now abandonware).

Get the linux based clone from here - http://www.openttd.org/

it will need a couple of the original files from the game which can be found here: http://abandonia.com/games/240/downl...forWindows.htm

enjoy this - i know i am...

I have the openttd instaled on my linux box atm .
I also downloaded the files like the guy said above. Now the problem im having is were do i put these orignal files and how do i go about starting the game . ?
Could one of u guys help me out at all ?

Thanks Gentoo

If you read the message displayed after you emerge openttd, it says:

Code:

 * Messages for package games-simulation/openttd-0.7.2:

 * Remember, in order to play games, you have to
 * be in the 'games' group.
 * Just run 'gpasswd -a <USER> games', then have <USER> re-login.
 *
 * In order to play, you must copy the following 6 files from
 * a version of TTD to /usr/share/games/openttd/data/.
 *
 * From the WINDOWS version you need:
 *   sample.cat trg1r.grf trgcr.grf trghr.grf trgir.grf trgtr.grf
 * OR from the DOS version you need:
 *   SAMPLE.CAT TRG1.GRF TRGC.GRF TRGH.GRF TRGI.GRF TRGT.GRF
 *
 * File names are case sensitive so make sure they are
 * correct for whichever version you have.

or read http://wiki.openttd.org/FAQ_installation#On_Linux: for where the files go.

to run the program, assuming that your login name is part of the games group, you type "openttd" in a console window or find it in the games section of your menu bar.

Hope this helps.

Put them in /usr/share/games/openttd/data. Enjoy the game! It's really good, especially if you get any of the expansion sets.

They introduced a new feature a couple months ago where you can download and install expansions directly from inside the game. Just click "check online content." There are dozens of things you can download to "pimp" you OpenTTD--including AIs.

You can't run the game as root since root isn't in the games group (I assume you were trying that for diagnostic purposes). If you are trying it under your user account, make sure you are in the games group then try running it from a terminal. You might have to edit the menu entry.

Code:

chgrp games data/* && chown root data/*

and now u can play it

#################

buy the way im have installed version 7.2 from portage but after copying dm files and setting its permission i still dont have any midi sound. the use timidity it now avaiable at this version 7.2.
