PostPosted: Tue Aug 11, 2009 2:14 pm    Post subject: KDE 4.3.0 upgrade problems: versioned sets [SOLVED] Reply with quote

(EDIT) I should have started this post by saying the command this comes from is emerge -vuDN world, and that what I want is the upgrade from pre-KDE 4.3.0 to 4.3.0 to go smoothly. I also do not want to use kdeprefix, as I only want the latest KDE floating around.

Is there a bug in the ebuilds? If not, what do I do to get around this without unmerging and re-emerging, well, everything?

Code:

[blocks B     ] kde-base/kephal:4.2[-kdeprefix] ("kde-base/kephal:4.2[-kdeprefix]" is blocking kde-base/kephal-4.3.0)
[blocks B     ] kde-base/kephal:4.3[-kdeprefix] ("kde-base/kephal:4.3[-kdeprefix]" is blocking kde-base/kephal-4.2.4)
[blocks B     ] kde-base/kwin:4.2[-kdeprefix] ("kde-base/kwin:4.2[-kdeprefix]" is blocking kde-base/kwin-4.3.0)

Thanks! 8) But...

I don't want compiz. In fact, I unmerged it. I don't care about compiz at all on this machine.

I want the upgrade to KDE 4.3.0 to proceed without blockers.

Huh, it upgraded without blockers on mine. You could unmerge KDE-4.2 first, then emerge the new one.
Do you have KDE slotted?

No, and I don't want to slot it.

I guess I could unmerge and then re-emerge. It just seems like having to do so constitutes a bug.

Here is the output of emerge -pvuDN world:

http://audiodef.com/emergepvudnworld.txt

There is a bug on the forum software that would not let me post it here.

Looks like you have stuff depending on older kdelibs. Try this
Code:
equery depends kdelibs | egrep '3.5.10-r6|4.2.4-r4'
Do you get any output?

That has no results; however:

Code:

equery depends kdelibs-3.5.10-r6
 * Searching for kdelibs ...
app-cdr/k3b-1.0.5-r6 (=kde-base/kdelibs-3.5*)
app-office/openoffice-3.1.0-r1 (kde ? kde-base/kdelibs:3.5)
kde-base/kdeartwork-icewm-themes-3.5.10 (~kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10)
kde-base/kdeartwork-kwin-styles-3.5.10 (~kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10)
kde-misc/basket-1.0.3.1 (=kde-base/kdelibs-3.5*)

I don't need the kdeartwork items, so I unmerged those, but that (should I say of course?) didn't solve anything. K3B, OpenOffice and Basket gotta stay.

Ok the small b blocks are normal, I had all those too. The big B kephal and kwin need to be unmerged.

check them with equery depends kephal kwin

I had already unmerged those and now of course equery depends doesn't work on packages that aren't emerged. And part of the problem is I can't emerge kwin again to use equery depends.

Is there another way to find dependencies without having to emerge a package?

Well it doesn't really matter anymore since you unmerged them already. So since you don't have any B blocks your new KDE4 should build all nice. If the older kephal and kwin are needed, they should be pulled in by portage.

Have a good one. :)

Um, still getting the same blockers I originally posted about.

I DO know that unmerging a "problem" package doesn't necessarily mean you've solved the problem. If you haven't also taken care of that packages dependencies, portage will try to pull it right back in, resulting in a continuation of the issue.

Are they SERIOUSLY saying you have to UNMERGE everything KDE 4.2.4 before emerging 4.3.0?

Code:

Upgrade Troubleshooting

If you’re trying to upgrade from KDE 4.2, but portage gives you nice little blocks, there are a few things you can check:

    * Make sure you’ve synced the tree and/or kde-testing overlay (if using it)
    * Make sure the unmask/keyword files are correct and up-to-date
    * Check that you don’t have any 4.2 versioned kde-base/* items in /var/lib/portage/world
    * Check that you don’t have any 4.2 versioned sets in /var/lib/portage/world_sets
    * emerge -avDuN world — you’ll probably get some messy output but all blocks should be automatically resolved

That is BOGUS, man.

I didn't need to do that. The older ebuilds were unmerged by portage in the normal way. :P

Right now, I'm emerging older versions of kwin and such so I can use equery depends to weed all that out.

If that doesn't fix it, going with Gnome. I don't like the way the KDE folks are handling this upgrade.

But if that fixes it, all is forgiven. :P

Also, between kwin and kephal, one or both of those are necessary. Unmerging them broke KDE. No DE!

So the answer will not be as simple as unmerging them.

Code:

Baku audiodef # equery depends kwin
 * Searching for kwin ...
kde-base/kdebase-startkde-4.2.4 (>=kde-base/kwin-4.2.4:4.2[kdeprefix=])
Baku audiodef # equery depends kephal
 * Searching for kephal ...
kde-base/kwin-4.2.4 (>=kde-base/kephal-4.2.4:4.2[kdeprefix=])

Unless a dev tells me clearly what needs to be done, I doubt it. Us folks in my household only care about what works with the least trouble. Once something goes haywire, we'll simply stick with something else until that goes haywire. :P

You don't even have an @system set?
Code:
# cat /var/lib/portage/world_sets
@system

What about in /etc/portage/package.something do you have any sets in there?
