Audio equalizer

Hi!
I just installed gentoo with gnome and also ALSA.
This has been on all my linuxes I had so... the problem is simply the sound.
Not that it isn't available - it is, I can hear it really good, but I know it can be played better.
I compare Windows and Linux here, so in Windows I have really loud sound (most definetly made by equalizer), but in Linux - maybe not even half of that.
So I have Realtek HD Audio, in Windows there is a nice App that configures audio jacks to act like as I want (in this case - everyone as Line-Out).
First thing that would be turning down the volume is that I have plugged headphones in speakers, this makes the jack think I have a speaker plugged, not the headphones and the other part is that there is and equalizer working.
I have been searching for such an App in Gentoo Linux x64, but no luck.
Could someone atleast tell me how to configure the ALSA to let it give sound to all jacks?

The mixer that comes with Alsa should do the trick, emerge alsa-utils and then run:

That does nearlly nothing compared what it could do.
I'm more looking for an App that would allow me to change audio inputs/outputs.

If there is support for controlling the switches in your soundcard in Alsa, they should appear in alsamixer.

It only has the headphone switch, but it doesn't give the sound boost.
Here will be more detailed setup:
I have Realtek HDA sound card, it has 6 jacks at back and 2 at front.
I have 3 speakers, one of them has headphones plugged in.
In Windows I can set Mic-In to be Line-Out, Line-In to be Line-Out and Line-Out to be Headphones.
If I don't specify Line-Out as Headphones it thinks that it's a speaker (it is, but at the end it has headphones, so it needs manual configuration).
If I plug the headphones at the front jack it sounds like it should be (bit not so good as in Windows, but that is why I need an equalizer)
And no, I don't want to use the front jack only, because that makes the other speakers muted.
In linux I can't configure any of those jacks, they are Mic-In and Line-In and nothing can be done with alsamixer (atleast no switches that does that).
I emerged alsa-plugins and found JACK, but couldn't figure out if that is really what I need.

I don't think your issue lies with the mixer application, but with the drivers for your card. Look around on the alsa project site and see if you can find some information about your card. Sometimes you need to specify module options for everything to work correctly.

I don't think you want an equalizer (which changes the frequency response), instead it sounds like you want a mixer that gives you detailed control over what is routed to where. You might be able to accomplish this by using the ~/.asoundrc file:
