Now I am at work, on Monday I will write more.

You probably need to update qscintilla and qscintilla-python

yngwin: I have both packages installed in latest available version ( 2.4)

Error message "RuntimeError: the sip module implements API..."
comes from library:

/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sip.so

In the file

/sip-4.8.1/siplib/siplib.c

in the static function

Code:

static int sip_api_export_module(sipExportedModuleDef *client,
        unsigned api_major, unsigned api_minor, void *unused)
{
    sipExportedModuleDef *em;
    const char *full_name = sipNameOfModule(client);

    /* Check that we can support it. */

    if (api_major != SIP_API_MAJOR_NR || api_minor > SIP_API_MINOR_NR)
    {
#if SIP_API_MINOR_NR > 0
        PyErr_Format(PyExc_RuntimeError,
                "the sip module implements API v%d.0 to v%d.%d but the %s module requires API v%d.%d",
                SIP_API_MAJOR_NR, SIP_API_MAJOR_NR, SIP_API_MINOR_NR,
                full_name, api_major, api_minor);

#else
        PyErr_Format(PyExc_RuntimeError,
                "the sip module implements API v%d.0 but the %s module requires API v%d.%d",
                SIP_API_MAJOR_NR, full_name, api_major, api_minor);
#endif

        return -1;
    }
}

Sip api and PyQt4.Qsci api module versions are tested and test fails.

For me is not clear, why package sip-4.8.1 belonging to version 4.8.1
in constats ( /sip-4.8.1/siplib/sip.h)

#define SIP_API_MAJOR_NR 5
#define SIP_API_MINOR_NR 0

is being shown in version 5 ?
Maybe package itself is in version 4 but exported api in ver. 5.

Could somebody check it ?

One thing I can see that is the same on the failer side and different from the succeeding side is the useflag "examples" in PyQt4.
*** some time used to test my hypothesis with changing /etc/portage/package.use to discard "examples" and
Code:
emerge -1 PyQt4 qscintilla-python eric
***

So at least I got it to run. Will try to make a better proof.

again, I had this problem, here are mails that I've sent to the developers of eric:

me:
Code:
I'm trying to install version 4.3.5 and this is the output I get:
An internal error occured.  Please report all the output of the program,
including the following traceback, to eric4-bugs@die-offenbachs.de.

Traceback (most recent call last):

    main(sys.argv)
  File "install.py", line 607, in main
    doDependancyChecks()
  File "install.py", line 504, in doDependancyChecks
    from PyQt4 import Qsci
RuntimeError: the sip module implements API v5.0 but the PyQt4.Qsci module requires API v4.0

using gentoo, PyQt4-4.5.1, qscintilla-python-2.4, python-2.5.4.

develoepr:
Code:
Hi,

that is no eric4 error. It seems, Gentoo screwed up their packages. They
probably forgot to rebuild the QScintilla Python bindings after an upgrade of
sip and PyQt.

Why didn't you report the bug to us? You shouldn't go straight to the upstream developer. Now he thinks we screwed up, while it was a matter of the user remerging a package. Also, I think a bugzilla search would have turned up this issue.

Solution was so simple, only a recompilation of packages dev-python/PyQt4 and
dev-python/qscintilla-python.
These packages ( and python itself) are the first dependency level of eric.
I learnt something... but I fill myself, you know what...

yngwin: Next time I will report better, now the bug is marked as invalid.

Detlev: Ich wuste das ist kein eric Fehler but irgend wie mueste anfagen.

Thanks all for help.
