SLIP Binaries??

If someone has asked this already, feel free to mock me (or point me to the post).

I have been trying to install gentoo over a modem booting straight off the cd without switching back and forth (because of the partition problems that I wouldn't know how to fix later) to another distribution. Anyway, I keep getting the infamous error -127 when PPPD tries to run after WvDial connects. Someone mentioned this was SLIP not being set up properly and that they back tracked from RPM to find what they needed. I tried this and failed...

So, does anyone know what package or specific binaries I need to setup after booting to get SLIP working properly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated (I'm writing this from redhat and its sucking the life out of me).
