I've just installed the Uzbl web-browser, and noticed the phenomenon in the thread-title. To see if it was down to the browser or the backend, i emerged Midori as well - same problem. Posting to the Uzbl thread highlighted that Links2 was also affected...
I've since checked with Arora/QT-Webkit and Opera, and they're both doing it too - the only browser i have installed that wraps lines correctly is Firefox.
If this is a known issue and i missed the thread, my apologies. I'd be very interested to learn whether this can be fixed, as i'm trying to find an alternative to Firefox that's less bloated, and this issue would put a serious wrinkle in those plans. _________________ "Anyone who goes to see a psychiatrist should have their head examined!" |

are you referring to...
| Code: | | a really long line here.......... |
causing issues? that's a phpbb issue, and not anything a browser can do about that.
phpbb3 puts scrollbars in code blocks that exceed the page's normal bounds, so that's the earliest we'll get to see an improvement in that matter.

I initially noticed it in the 'emerge --info' codeblock in this post, which makes the whole page absurdly wide to accommodate the "LS_COLORS" and "USE" lines, which in turn means that the rest of the text in the page doesn't get wrapped until then, either.
Firefox (and presumably other Gecko browsers) displays it fine, but no other browser i've tried does. _________________ "Anyone who goes to see a psychiatrist should have their head examined!"

Here's the line that causes problems in non-firefox browsers:
| Code: | LS_COLORS="rs=0:di=01;34:ln=01;36:hl=44;37:pi=40;33:so=01;35:do=01;35:bd=40;33;01:cd=40;33;01:or=01;05;37;41:mi=01;05;37;41:su=37;41:sg=30;43:ca=30;41:tw=30;42:ow=34;42:st=37;44:ex=01;32:*.tar=01;31:*.tgz=01;31:*.arj=01;31:*.taz=01;31:*.lzh=01;31:*.lzma=01;31:*.zip=01;31:*.z=01;31:*.Z=01;31:*.dz=01;31:*.gz=01;31:*.bz2=01;31:*.bz=01;31:*.tbz2=01;31:*.tz=01;31:*.deb=01;31:*.rpm=01;31:*.jar=01;31:*.rar=01;31:*.ace=01;31:*.zoo=01;31:*.cpio=01;31:*.7z=01;31:*.rz=01;31:*.jpg=01;35:*.jpeg=01;35:*.gif=01;35:*.bmp=01;35:*.pbm=01;35:*.pgm=01;35:*.ppm=01;35:*.tga=01;35:*.xbm=01;35:*.xpm=01;35:*.tif=01;35:*.tiff=01;35:*.png=01;35:*.svg=01;35:*.svgz=01;35:*.mng=01;35:*.pcx=01;35:*.mov=01;35:*.mpg=01;35:*.mpeg=01;35:*.m2v=01;35:*.mkv=01;35:*.ogm=01;35:*.mp4=01;35:*.m4v=01;35:*.mp4v=01;35:*.vob=01;35:*.qt=01;35:*.nuv=01;35:*.wmv=01;35:*.asf=01;35:*.rm=01;35:*.rmvb=01;35:*.flc=01;35:*.avi=01;35:*.fli=01;35:*.flv=01;35:*.gl=01;35:*.dl=01;35:*.xcf=01;35:*.xwd=01;35:*.yuv=01;35:*.axv=01;35:*.anx=01;35:*.ogv=01;35:*.ogx=01;35:*.pdf=00;32:*.ps=00;32:*.txt=00;32:*.patch=00;32:*.diff=00;32:*.log=00;32:*.tex=00;32:*.doc=00;32:*.aac=00;36:*.au=00;36:*.flac=00;36:*.mid=00;36:*.midi=00;36:*.mka=00;36:*.mp3=00;36:*.mpc=00;36:*.ogg=00;36:*.ra=00;36:*.wav=00;36:*.axa=00;36:*.oga=00;36:*.spx=00;36:*.xspf=00;36:"

Basically a long line without any spaces isn't broken up. _________________ 2.6.34-rc3 on x86_64 w/ paludis

Now my question is why does that mess with the other boxes (shifts the quote boxes for me..) _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA

Check the html-source - boxes are center-aligned at 90% of the table-width, so the 5% at either side gets bigger as the unbroken lines get longer.
EDIT: I didn't twig that it was the unbroken line that was the root of the problem - well spotted, Need4Speed.
Is the inclusion of the 'export -p' output into 'emerge --info' an improvement to 'portage-2.1.6.13' that my '2.1.6.11' doesn't have..? _________________ "Anyone who goes to see a psychiatrist should have their head examined!" |

read my post above... that's the issue i was confirming... when people post these long lines, we (moderators) usually go around and manually put in linebreaks... it doesn't happen very often, as users usually do it themselves. _________________ goodbye fgo. it was nice knowing you. |

another nice thing is to pastebin it.
Also... why does posting something too long (a .config) usually break formatting in a similar way? _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA

pastebin can be nice, but it has the unfortunate problem of expiring pastes... _________________ goodbye fgo. it was nice knowing you. |

Since bunder seems to have covered the original problem, I will leave it at that unless further information is requested.
| poly_poly-man wrote: | | Also... why does posting something too long (a .config) usually break formatting in a similar way? | It is due to lack of closing tags where they were internally expected due to truncating the post as it is added to the database, in short long posts trigger a bug.
| poly_poly-man wrote: | by pastebin, I mean omploader | Considering that it dropped all prior content during one upgrade and there is no reason to not expect similar circumstances with another upgrade in the future, for relative permanence it is still best to include the relevant output in posts here. |

You can get around this in Opera by using the "Fit to Width" option under View.
It's very handy; I've added it to my main toolbar |
