|
|
I'm currently using KDM 4.2.4. Recently I replaced my ATI card with an Nvidia one, and ever since then KDM is requiring me to login twice. So specifically, I log in once, the screen goes black, and then I'm brought back to the same screen, where I have to log in again to start KDE. If I type in the password incorrectly the second time, I'm only required to do it again once. If I type it incorrectly the first time, I to do it twice as usual. _________________ "I know it's only rock and roll but I like it."

I had this too a while back but with 4.2.3.
I found a clue to what it was in either $HOME/.xsession* log or /var/log/messages, I forget.

I don't really see anything in either file that would be indicative of an error. I tried deleting the .xsession-error file before logging in the first time, but it does not generate any new file. I only get a new file after logging in the second time. From there I just have nondescript errors about font elements and invalid d-bus member names. I also deleted /var/log/messages, and there was no new file created after logging in the first time or second time. _________________ "I know it's only rock and roll but I like it." |

I noticed this now in kdm.log

That seems to be related. What is causing this? Also why is it trying to load dri? I don't have that set in my xorg.conf. I'm using an Nvidia card so I don't need it. _________________ "I know it's only rock and roll but I like it." |

|

Hi,
Have a different videocard to you (laptop with Intel GM965) but had much the same problem running kde 4.2.4 requiring two separate logins to launch kde.
Solved it by re-emerging kdm without consolekit. My emerge --info kdm now reads:
Quote: | kde-base/kdm-4.2.4 was built with the following:
USE="handbook (multilib) pam -consolekit -debug (-kdeprefix) -kerberos"
|
After the emerge I had to update some admin files; I replaced the old /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc with the one created by the emerge.
KDM now works with just one login
Maybe try re-emerging with your current USE flags and then update any config files that change (specifically kdmrc in /usr/share/config/kdm/..). If that fails, maybe try re-emerging KDM with the -consolekit flag. _________________ Cheers,

Thanks rod! I just had to add consolekit to my startup. In another thread someone said it made dbus work for them so I suppose I'll keep it. _________________ "I know it's only rock and roll but I like it." |
