I hadn't noticed the change until mentioned, but I find I prefer the logical line move.

That said, the default shouldn't be patched. I'd prefer a mention in the emacs guide.

Patches still welcome. :) You can grab the sourcecode with the instructions from http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/emacs/ and find the source in the emacsguide subdirectory.

I suppose this is not a matter for Gentoo to override. Customizing the behaviour back to the original one is doable (worth describing in a Gentoo Emacs guide, if there were such a thing).

There is one in the works (and see my previous post).

We have 56 votes by now (not counting "don't care"), so let me try to summarise. There are two clear trends:
  • The movement by logical lines is preferred (by a majority of more than two thirds).
  • In spite of this, the upstream default for line-move-visual should be left alone.

Great work! This will be yet one more way that Gentoo brings more value than the random Linux distro.

Personally, I don't care, as I would customize it anyway, but the package should provide clear instructions on how to customize the feature upon installation. Generally, I'm rather in favor of going with the upstream, also to support new users switching to Gentoo.
