OK.. Konqueror is a great browser but as far as quality and features go i prefer mozilla.. one problem mozilla is not rendering fonts with the really pretty anti-aliasing that konqueror provides.. how exactly (if even possible) do you get mozilla to do the same?
Thanks _________________ er.. |

Gtk2 features AntiAliasing, but the Gtk2 port of Mozilla is still quite unfinished. You can get AA in Mozilla but it looks ugly. :/ Better wait for it to become more mature. |

It is based on libXft and libfreetype. One thing I do to improve font display in mozilla is turn aliasing *off* for font sizes < 24 points in the file /usr/lib/mozilla.../unix.js. With this, I cannot really see any differences between konqueror and mozilla for typical font sizes.
Are you sure your problem is not due to mozilla antialiasing at small font sizes? It was for me (you can tell using xmag).

aliasing works fine with mozilla and xft/freetype assuming you tweak it a bit.
see http://mpillard.free.fr/mozilla , and especially mozmail.png ... pretty beautiful to me :) _________________ mat |

I don't know about you, but if you look at:
http://mpillard.free.fr/mozilla/mozaa-final.png
it just does not look good to my eyes. Slanted strokes in the font look pretty ugly (look at the italicized "M", non-italicized "k", etc. Both look faded out and are a bit hard on the eye).

mm, I changed my settings a bit since that screenshot, but its still pretty good to me.... of course it wont be as good as qt3/gtk2 aa, but its still very good ...
and at least you can change the aa settings trough unix.js (think its too blurry ? think everything is too "bold" ? well change it ! :) _________________ mat

Been there, done that Finally decided to turn it off for sizes < 24 in unix.js.
Re: "wont be as good..." AFAIK, everything uses libfreetype2 at the back end, so I am not sure why they would be different.

w00h00 got it working.. thanks for the help.. i found some useful info in the gnome forums too (not that i use gnome or something) its ok tho. its not even close to konquerors AA, but i've only been messing around with it for a few minutes. im pretty sure i can get it working with a lil more time hackin up that unix.js file..
once again thx _________________ er.. |
