I don't mean to scare people away from a project that could potentially use bug reports, it's just that it requires a certain amount of work and that needs to be kept in mind if you decide to use it.

Wow...not really what I wanted to hear (regarding the overlay)... I'll give it an honest go, I suppose... but this is becoming very discouraging. It seems everything I want to use my box for gentoo either doesn't support anymore, or doesn't support it well...

Maybe a 32 bit chroot (and maybe precompiled 32 bit packages) is the best option for running wine on 64 bit Gentoo now.
