Hey all.
I just got a Sun Ultra5 360Mhz 256mb ram for $60US (yes, im serious ... )
im going to be throwing a cdrom and hd in it soon, but had a question I figured id toss out.
Im planning a dualboot solaris9/gentoo environment.
Now, its the crappy kind if ultra5 with the 8bit on board frame buffer.
if I stick a PCI graphics card, say a radeon 7000, that has linux drivers is it feasible to make it go ?
How about in that other forbidden (solaris) OS? _________________ -Tim Smith

| Normally Ultra5s come with an ATI Mach64 chipset. These are pretty decent, and can run 32 and 16bit color no problem. No 3D capability, but as a workstation the card is adequate. |

I wonder if you jumper the onboard video to disabled and enable the radeon framebuffer in the kernel if it will display something after the kernel loads? _________________ Inspiron 4100 & Sun UltraAXe

That's what I was referring to. I know that you can set up an old 3DFx voodoo2 card as a framebuffer so it is feasable that you might be able to get this to work. _________________ Inspiron 4100 & Sun UltraAXe
