Hi, can you post this :

Code:

# emerge --info
# rc-update show

Also, are you sure that you did not change your /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?

Finally, did you run this :

Code:

# revdep-rebuild --ignore

Sync and downgrade hal, if you are using the now hardmasked version. Otherwise, check the xorg 1.5 guide.

thanks yngwin
downgrading hal worked nicely.

it was hal-0.5.12_rc1-r5 keyword masked
now i installed 0.5.11-r8

how did ou know the remedy :?
there was no complaints from hal :(

though i get some
WARNINGS: Deprecated config files /etc/modprobe.conf,all
config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/

all config files need .config , /etc/modprobe.d/pnp-aliases, it will be ignored
in a future release.

and same for /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

and blah blah while booting.

there was no mention of hal not finding anything
it used up all my sunday. :(

untill i got our reply i was just trying with merging X server and its input files.

i really would like to know your reasoning the fault with hal.

these are available hal after sync 30 minutes earlier.

what are the boot up warnings?
do we expect a boot failure in a future update?
those config files are of modules no?
xorg.0.log said about savage module not found
what are chances of complete system down by updating?
