Im so impressed with gentoo that Ive decided to install it on my main machine.
Alls gone well until I come to edit fstab.................!
I forgot which filesystems I used on my partitions. Im pretty sure its ext2 on /boot (hdg1) and xfs on / (hdg5), but I cant remember what I used on /usr and /home (hdg7 and hdg8). How casn I find out which I used?
The only thing I can find via search is: 'look at fstab'......
Not much use when you aint written it yet.
Sorry to waste your time with my stupidity, hope you can help
Baz

insert the install-cd, boot from it, mount the questionable partition :) the install-kernel auto-detects the filesystem - as long as its ext2/3, xfs or reiserfs 8O

Yes, but how does it tell me what it is so that I can enter it in fstab?

Once you have it mounted, do "mount". It will give you a list of installed partitions and their type.

simply type mount<enter> in the console, you will find something like:
Code:
FOGELNEST root # mount
/dev/hda1 on / type reiserfs (rw,noatime)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
none on /dev type devfs (rw)
tmpfs on /mnt/.init.d type tmpfs (rw,mode=0644,size=1024k)
/dev/hda8 on /bilder type ext3 (rw)
/dev/hda9 on /platz type xfs (rw)
10.13.1.1:/home on /home type nfs (rw,addr=10.13.1.1)
