I'm having almost the exact same symptoms as the poster of this article.
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7278
At first I thought it was nvidia drivers but I'm absolutely sure now that it's streamzap somewhere along the line from USB dongle to the kernel module and now I need a bit of direction on how to find out where and why. Sometimes it's not a full hard lock, I have a screen session open and irssi's clock remains ticking, and messages are delivered to the active window but I have no control interactively with the machine.
I'm wondering how I can trace this hardlock or gradual hardlock (the system load slowly spikes from 0 to 8 before freezing completely after 10 minutes, no CPU usage).
syslog reports nothing abnormal.
I'm using app-misc/lirc-0.8.4 on amd64; USE=X debug streamzap
edit:
I've run the daemon with debug=5 and this is the last 1000 lines from syslog after reloading the modules and starting it up again with irexec (complete syslog available, it's about 6MB and 104,000 lines long). The remote causing all of this is my TV remote for a Panasonic Plasma, and it reliably crashes my machine each time.
http://pastebin.com/m7c6191fa (last two lines are after a hard reset)
Thanks for any direction in this, should I be filing a bug report? |

so: bug report or just build a IR receiver and hope the problem is related to the streamzap module? |

so after reading this: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/bugzilla-howto.xml
Should I be looking to file a bug for regarding the streamzap kernel module or lircd?
It's a hard system lock, doing the debug thing is fine as long as I can have it flush it's output to disk immediately so I know what I submit is complete, I can't really do a backtrace because it takes the whole system down with it?
Any direction on this would be appreciated, thanks. |
