?
This is quite a strange question, when it comes from someone with 244 posts.

So... maybe I misunderstood something, anyway this is what I understood:
upgrade: emerge --sync && emerge -av x11-drivers/ati-drivers

which version you use:
emerge gentoolkit
equery list <package>, for example: equery list ati-drivers
X version... I would assume x11-base/xorg-server

Hi, you need to keyword your ati-drivers inside /etc/portage/package.keywords

Can you post this :

Code:

# emerge --info
# cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
# equery list xorg
# equery list ati

Hi, first of all, since you are running with Xorg-Server 1.5, your /etc/X11/xorg.conf should be like this :

Code:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Simple Layout"
Screen "Screen1"
EndSection

Section "Files"
EndSection

Section "ServerFlags"
EndSection

Section "Module"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "BenQ"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Radeon X1950 Pro"
Driver "fglrx"
Option "Capabilities" "0x00000800"
Option "UseFastTLS" "off"
Option "KernelModuleParm" "locked-userpages=0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen1"
Device "ATI Radeon X1950 Pro"
Monitor "BenQ"
DefaultDepth 24
EndSection

Section "DRI"
        Mode 0666
EndSection

Also, you are already running with the ati-drivers 8.58.

For the rest, since you are running in the testing branch, I think that you can handle a lot :P
