I have recently built a new Gentoo computer and I noticed that during a recent emerge -avuND world cycle that it wants to rebuild "gcc-4.1.2" with a new USE variable that I added to make.conf.
I use gcc-4.3.2 so I thought to myself....hmmmm
Can I safely --unmerge 4.1.2? I really dont want to support an older, unused gcc version if I can help it. |

lemmingman,
Newer versions of gcc are not automatically made active for you. You must use gcc-config to chose a gcc to be used.
After you have followed the gcc upgrade guide, its safe to remove the old gcc. _________________ Regards,

The upgrade guide is a little misleading so try this thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-753674-highlight-gcc.html. _________________ Athlon XP-M 2600 @ 2.3 GHz OC | Abit NF7-S r2.0 | 2x512MB PC3200 | 6600GT OC | Audigy 2 | Gentoo | 2005
