Volume dial on Toshiba Laptop does not work...?

I think it must be some kind of a driver problem but I am unable to adjust sound volume using the volume dial... any ideas?

I think you need to enable in the kernel the toshiba extras. Then you need to map the volume dial as a key...http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Multimedia_Keys
