|
|
I do a "emerge --update world" often and I see packages like postfix and openssh are being recompiled.
But these packages are already running (duh else they would not be updated). So after the recompile, there are new binairies on disk, but I the old versions are still running.
On debian and SuSE etc. the packages would be stopped and restarted after I updated a package. But I haven't seen it in emerge. Maybe I am blind, I am fairly new to gentoo
So.. Should I restart the service, or did emerge/portage already restart it for me.
If it's not automaticly restarted, should this not be a feature of emerge? _________________ What is this "signature" thing you are talking about? |

Portage didn't do it for you, so restart as necessary.

There's a Severity field that ranges from "Blocker" and "Critical" to "Enhancement". If you set it to Enhancement and post it to Bugzilla, the developers will actually see the feature request. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

That's the first time anyone's given me flak about that.

I don't see any bug currently open or ever open to dev-portage with something similar to this, so I'd say it was never filed. Feel free to make a bug for it though _________________ Mark Loeser

Submitted as bug 68199.
Thanks for doing the search Halcy0n.
<edit> I found an earlier bug 4780. This is obviously an issue that several people have asked for, but no one has implemented, for some very valid reasons.
Any other comments? </edit> |
