As of a recent update of my world, firefox would crash on startup. I found the solution in another thread, namely building cairo w/o glitz support.
This makes firefox work again, but now inkscape crashes (resp. doesn't build any more, because it needs cairo built with glitz support).
I need both apps. Specifically, I need firefox 3.1 for some new features in there that are used on websites that I develop.
I also have the gut feeling this is again related to a nvidia-drivers update from 177.x to 180.x. This gave me trouble in the past with similar symptoms. Could this be true?
Any ideas what I could try to get both firefox & inkscape to work happily with a cairo compiled either w. or w/o glitz support?
Cheers,

I have cairo compiled without glitz support (which seems to be the default on the 2008.0 profile) and have had no issues with firefox or inkscape. Did you recompile inkscape after reinstalled cairo -glitz? You should also see if a revdep-rebuild is needed on your system if just rebuilding inkscape doesn't work.
Your problems could be related to the nVidia drivers... I've read about many strange things happening after that upgrade, but since I don't have an nVidia card I can't comment specifically. |
