if you're willing to unmask it, it's available now
The only other alternative is to sit tight and keep an eye on Gentoo's/Novell's bugzilla.

The only blocker for mono-2.4 is bug 257313, otherwise I've been using it and the pre-releases for >1 Month and it's working better than mono-2.2. This is the list of packages to put in your /etc/portage/package.unmask file:
