ok i noticed strange things cropping up in the last few weeks or so, i cant put a definitive date on it, recently my audio quit working all together.
try loading alsamixer and get:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
I have also noticed some strange results in /dev

notice how many hard drives/partitions are listed. the only drives I actually have are hda1, sda1-4, sdb1.
/etc doesnt show the directories and files listed in the gentoo alsa doc either.

I have tried recompiling the kernel a couple times, I even made the intel audio card a module, which does show up in lsmod
