|
|
Code: | ls: cannot access <directory>/<file>: Permission denied
ls: cannot access <directory>/<file>: Permission denied
total 0
-????????? ? ? ? ? ? <file>
-????????? ? ? ? ? ? <file> |
i stripped out the actual file and directory names.
the user who is trying to get a directory listing ist the owner of the files. root access works so i guess its not a filesystem error.
any ideas? |

did you add those question marks?
you need read/write (whichever you want - you can get away with just read, for example) AND EXECUTE permissions on the parent directory (. in the folder) _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA

no i did not add the question marks.
a file listing as root shows correct permissions 644 and the user xbox:xbox as owner and group which is correct.
when i do the listing as user xbox i get the output that you see in my initial post.
i did what you said now but set the owner and group back to root:root. now user xbox can see and access the files again.
there must be a reason for this behavior, no? |

What are the mount options on the filesystem, and what filesystem are you using? If this is a network filesystem could there be a permissions issue on the server? |

its not a network filesystem. the hdd is connected via usb and gets mounted via autofs.
its working with the new permissions which is okay for me, so this is kinda solved
thanks for your help. |
